November 2014

Whilst we were looking after Dora, another opportunity to cat sit in Bangkok cropped up and of course we couldn’t resist it. This time it was for a sweet old lady who needed some loving company for 10 days.

As a senior cat, Kayfa’s favourite pastime was to walk around her spacious apartment looking for the next sunny spot when the one she had been snoozing in disappeared. She would then settle down for another peaceful snooze until it was time to move again.

Her little quirks made us smile every time. Although she knew exactly where her food bowl was, she sometimes seemed to forget, and would come looking for us and meow until we guided her to the correct room. As we approached the room, she seemed to suddenly remember where the bowl was and would trot happily towards it the rest of the way by herself.

She would also let us know when she had made a smell in her litter box. If we saw her running away from that room, for no apparent reason, we knew that was the unmistakable sign that we needed to put the poop scooper to use! Well, we couldn’t allow an old lady to use a dirty toilet, could we?

In the evenings, when she was more awake, she would come and join us on the sofa. She reserved her lap cuddles for her mum, but she enjoyed sitting between us to get maximum attention.

If we dared sit too close together, she would either sit by our feet and look up at us defiantly until one of us budged up; or she would jump on us and walk from lap to lap without settling down and making it clear she wanted to sit in the middle. Of course we were more than happy to oblige!
